The Romanoff Center for Russian Studies Scholarship Application
The Romanoff Center for Russian Studies will award one or more $1,000 scholarships to degree-seeking OU students who display an interest in the study of Russia including, but not limited to, language, culture, identity, or other relevant topics. Students completing the Russian and East European Studies major and minor in the College of International Relations, the Russian major and minor in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Linguistics, or graduate programs in fields such as history and IAS that include a substantial focus on Russia are all eligible. Students may not apply for this award in the spring in which they expect to complete their undergraduate/graduate program. Awards will be announced at the Romanoff Center’s spring reception in April. Romanoff Center scholarships may not be used to fund study abroad.

To be considered eligible for scholarship consideration, you must meet the following criteria: (All are required)
- Must be a full-time regularly enrolled student, enrolled in one of the following programs:
Russian and East European Area Studies BA
Russian and East European Studies Minor
BA in Russian
Minor in Russian
Masters or Doctoral program with substantial focus on Russia - Must have demonstrated financial need
- Must not be graduating during the current fall or spring semesters. Awards are disbursed specifically for the upcoming academic year.

- Please upload a one-page essay describing 1) your commitment to the study of Russia and 2) your plans for using the scholarship if awarded.

- The application requires one letter of recommendation from an OU faculty member. Please provide the name and email address of your reference below and click "Save and Keep Editing" or "Finish and Submit" to generate an email to your recommender.You can check the status of your recommendation by clicking on the “References” tab at the top of the page.
Your reference will be automatically contacted via email to submit an electronic recommendation on your behalf. The deadline for your reference to submit the letter of recommendation is February 1, 2025. If your recommender does not receive the email, contact scholarships@ou.edu. It is your responsibility to ensure that your recommender receives the email request and submits his/her recommendation prior to the deadline. - Letter of Recommendation Waiver
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives students the right to inspect letters of recommendation written on their behalf for an application for financial assistance. Students may waive this right and keep letters of recommendation confidential. This waiver is voluntary and is not a condition of any award. Scholarship committees may place higher value on letters of recommendation that are submitted confidentially.
