Department of History Scholarship Application
Currently enrolled students in good standing with the University of Oklahoma Department of History are eligible to apply for scholarships via the Department of History Scholarship Application. This application is available for both Graduate and Undergraduate students.
In order to be eligible for some need-based Department of History scholarships, eligible students must complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

- Undergraduate students enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
- Graduate students enrolled in 9 credit hours, or 5 credit hours and have a .5 appointment as a GA or TA.

- In a maximum of 500 words, describe how you demonstrate academic excellence and a strong interest in the academic field of history. Provide specific examples of your achievements in coursework, research, or extracurricular activities that highlight your commitment to academic success.
Applicants may wish to focus on a specific field, event, or area of focus to demonstrate a strong academic interest and subject matter expertise. - Compose a statement on how your education has been and will be financed. Please explain the importance of a scholarship to your financial needs related to your undergraduate work and your career goals. Address any special circumstances as to why a scholarship might be helpful to you. (Please answer in 300 words or less.)
Please include any additional information that could help us make financial need-based scholarship decisions, including if you are self-supporting (paying for college without parental or third-party assistance), a first-generation college student, or you are a non-traditional student. - The Department of History offers several scholarships based on the submission of exemplary academic work(s) submitted as part of coursework or published during the past two years. To be considered for these scholarships, please submit your strongest work.
Graduate Students, please upload an essay/ scholarly article published in a refereed journal or conference paper.
Undergraduate Students, please upload an accepted conference paper or research paper. - If submitting an academic work, please specify the article, conference, or OU history course it was submitted through.

- Are you an undergraduate History major that plans to pursue a graduate History program?
- The application requires one letter of recommendation from an OU faculty member in the Department of History. Please provide the name and email address of your reference below and click "Save and Keep Editing" or "Finish and Submit" to generate an email to your recommender.You can check the status of your recommendation by clicking on the “References” tab at the top of the page.
Your reference will be automatically contacted via email to submit an electronic recommendation on your behalf. The deadline for your reference to submit the letter of recommendation is February 1, 2024. If your recommender does not receive the email, contact scholarships@ou.edu. It is your responsibility to ensure that your recommender receives the email request and submits his/her recommendation prior to the deadline. - Letter of Recommendation Waiver
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives students the right to inspect letters of recommendation written on their behalf for an application for financial assistance. Students may waive this right and keep letters of recommendation confidential. This waiver is voluntary and is not a condition of any award. Scholarship committees may place higher value on letters of recommendation that are submitted confidentially. - Show 3 more
