Department of History Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Currently enrolled undergraduate students in good standing with the University of Oklahoma Department of History are eligible to apply for scholarships via the Department of History Undergraduate Scholarship Application.

In order to be eligible for some need-based Department of History scholarships, eligible students must complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  1. Are you an undergraduate History major that plans to pursue a graduate degree in history (MA and/or PhD.)?
  2. Do you plan to pursue a law degree after completing your undergraduate or graduate History program?
  3. In a maximum of 500 words, describe how you demonstrate academic excellence and a strong interest in the academic field of history. Provide specific examples of your achievements in coursework, research, or extracurricular activities that highlight your commitment to academic success.
  4. The Department of History offers several scholarships based on the quality of papers submitted as part of coursework or presented at the Phi Alpha Theta state conference. To be considered for these scholarships, please submit your strongest work.
  5. The application requires one letter of recommendation from an OU faculty member in the Department of History. Please provide the name and email address of your reference below and click "Save and Keep Editing" or "Finish and Submit" to generate an email to your recommender.You can check the status of your recommendation by clicking on the “References” tab at the top of the page.

    Your reference will be automatically contacted via email to submit an electronic recommendation on your behalf. The deadline for your reference to submit the letter of recommendation is February 1, 2026. If your recommender does not receive the email, contact scholarships@ou.edu. It is your responsibility to ensure that your recommender receives the email request and submits his/her recommendation prior to the deadline.
  6. Letter of Recommendation Waiver

    The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives students the right to inspect letters of recommendation written on their behalf for an application for financial assistance. Students may waive this right and keep letters of recommendation confidential. This waiver is voluntary and is not a condition of any award. Scholarship committees may place higher value on letters of recommendation that are submitted confidentially.
