Department of History Graduate Scholarship Application

Currently enrolled graduate students in good standing with the University of Oklahoma Department of History are eligible to apply for scholarships via the Department of History Graduate Scholarship Application.

In order to be eligible for some need-based Department of History scholarships, eligible students must complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In order to be eligible for some Department of History scholarships, students must be enrolled full-time. The University of Oklahoma classifies full-time enrollment as…

  • Graduate students enrolled in 9 credit hours, or 5 credit hours and have a .5 appointment as a GA or TA.


A.K. & Ethel Christian Scholarship
This award supports academically excellent graduate students with demonstrated financial need, regardless of their area of historical specialization.
Required: 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need.
Students interested in being considered for this scholarship should submit the following materials to CASH :

  1. Letter of interest documenting achievements in graduate study and professional development, specifying future research plans, and explaining financial need.
  2. CV
  3. Request a letter of nomination from a member of the HIST faculty


Bea Mantooth Estep Scholarship
This award is given to a graduate student demonstrating significant achievements in Oklahoma history or Latin America history.
Students interested in being considered for this scholarship should submit the following materials to CASH :

  1. Letter of interest documenting achievements and future research plans in OK history or Latin American history
  2. CV
  3. Request a letter of nomination from a member of the HIST faculty


Worth Robert Miller Endowed
This award is given to a student at the doctoral level specializing in American history. The selection by the Graduate Committee is made in consultation with faculty teaching in American history. Required: 3.5 GPA, at least 6 hours completed in History.
Students interested in being considered for this scholarship should submit the following materials to CASH :

  1. Letter of interest documenting achievements in American history
  2. CV
  3. Request a letter of nomination from a member of the HIST faculty

  6. Letter of Recommendation Waiver

    The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives students the right to inspect letters of recommendation written on their behalf for an application for financial assistance. Students may waive this right and keep letters of recommendation confidential. This waiver is voluntary and is not a condition of any award. Scholarship committees may place higher value on letters of recommendation that are submitted confidentially.
