David T. Wright Memorial Scholarship (Sociology)
The Department of Sociology at the University of Oklahoma established the David T. Wright Memorial Scholarship in 2009 to honor the life of David T. Wright. David was an Army 1st Lieutenant who was killed on September 14, 2009, while serving in Afghanistan. He majored in Sociology-Criminology at the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 2006. After his military service he hoped to pursue a career as a police officer.
This scholarship is awarded annually in the spring to a student majoring in Sociology or Sociology-Criminology with a GPA of 2.0 or higher who has at least one or more semesters before graduating. Students must complete an application and submit an essay (450-500 words) describing their desire to provide service to their country, their community, and their fellow citizens.
Preference will be given to students who are serving or have served in the U.S. military or who are planning a career in the military, law enforcement, or public service.
